As specific contributions to the culture of peace the following national initiatives were mentioned:

* by Barbados, the Edutech 2000 and the National Commission for Reconciliation;

* by Bulgaria, the Second Meeting of the Tolerance and Non-violence network of the Black Sea and Mediterranean countries;

* by Colombia, an International Fund for Peace Education;

* by Costa Rica, the "Culture of Peace Collection" of books and audio cassettes;

* by the Dominican Republic, the National Project of Youth Peace Communicators and the creation of a UNESCO Chair for Culture of Peace, Democracy and Human Rights;

* by Ecuador, the creation of an Office for the Culture of Peace;

* by Italy, the development of regional centres of "animators and communication specialists to promote a culture of peace in conflict zones";

* by Kyrgyzstan*, the regular publication of the journal Central Asia and a Culture of Peace, as well as international forums dedicated to the culture of peace;

* by Moldova, the international forum in 1998, "for a culture of peace and a dialogue of civilizations, against a culture of war and violence";

* by Monaco, the annual meetings of the Academy of Peace;

* by Mozambique, the 1997 International Conference on Culture of Peace and Democratic Governance, as well as specific programmes for youth organizations;

* by Nepal, the inclusion of the birth place of Guatama Buddha in the World Heritage List;

* by Philippines, the creation by President Estrada of the National Committee on the Culture of Peace

* by the Russian Federation, the development of regional networks for tolerance, non-violence and solidarity;

* by Somalia, the UNESCO-sponsored meeting of Somali political leaders and intellectuals in Sana'a, Addis Ababa, etc. that have promoted dialogue and reconciliation;

* by Sudan, the development of the Center for the Culture of Peace in Khartoum and regional meetings to promote peace;

* by Tanzania*, the Pan-African Women's Conference on the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence..
