social workers with pensionerRecently by chance I saw the television program «Good Morning» on the channel ORT, which was dedicated to the Day of Volunteer Social Work, which was marked for the first time in Russia. This program is about social problems and about the people who daily try to solve them. Social workers help pensioners, veterans, difficult adolescents, orphans, invalids, families, in fact, everyone who needs aid. The purpose of their work - to support people not in their material needs, but also in a moral sense: to make them feel that they are not alone. In my opinion this is very noble and very hard labor. Only people who are kind, merciful, responsive, generous and tolerable are capable of working in this sphere. People in this profession deserve respect and support in view of their very low wages. Many of them live under difficult material conditions, often as difficult as those they are helping. Also, resources are not sufficient in the shelters, the centers of social aid and houses for the aged. In the television broadcast they showed several subjects, including centers of rehabilitation for the child- invalids, boarding schools for the aged, the houses of veterans in different regions of the Russian Federation. Many of these houses became like true homes, a place where people are surrounded by concern and love, where they do not feel alone. In my view, the broadcast came out very warm and touching. I consider that we don't have enough such broadcasts on our television; they inspire people to be merciful, kind and philanthropic.
