Dear friends: In the month since sending out the invitations tothe Coloquio and drafting Conference for a Statement on Violence. we have received a very warm and positive response. As you can see from the list above, we already have a working group that is both international and multi-disciplinary in scope. A few of the participants can come only if finances are provided and last-minute scheduling problems permit, but most are definitely committed to working together in Seville. Only Hinde and Barnett have indicated that they must limit their work to written correspondence. We have word that there will be some Soviet participants, but the details are still being. worked out as to whether the initial invitees (Lomov. Bechterev, Smirnov, and Fedoseev) can come or whether some will send other representatives From their institutes instead. Recognizing some geographical gaps in the first-round list of invitees, the organizing committee has expanded the list to invite the followinq additional people: Jacques Ruffié (Medicine) from France; Andrzej Eliasz (psychology) from Poland; Manuel Angeles, President, Angeles University in Philippines; and Suedjatmoko, Rector, United Nations University in Japan. In addition. we are asking our Spanish UNESCO host, Isidoro Alonso Hinojal, who is a sociologist. to take a full role in our work. and we have added a member to our organizing committee, the noted American psychologist Neal Miller.
