The Seville Statement continues to draw further support from eminent scientists and educators around the world. I have already mentioned the letters from Labastida, Burns, and Nielson. Also I am enclosing letters from Dr. Kenneth B. Clark, the distinguished Afro—American psychologist whose work formed the basis for the US Supreme Court decision that overturned the racist segregation policies in schools prior to 1954. From Dr. Phillip V. Tobias, co-signer of the Statement on Race of UNESCO and one who has displayed outstanding courage and scientific responsibility by speaking out against racism from within the Republic of South Africa. from Dr. Hatim A. Hammour, distinguished scientist at United Arab Emirates University, from Dr. Vladimir Denisov of the Institute of Philosophy of Moscow, whose book opposing the misuse of violence research was published in the 1970's in the Soviet Union, from Carmi Harari. a leader of the peace psychologists at the International Congress of Psychology. We have also received statements of support from the distinguished peace researcher Johan Galtung who writes that the Statement is "the best I have read in this field." At the meetings of the European Psychologists for Peace, where Dr. Robert Hinde and Dr. Riitta Wahlstrom distributed the Statement, we received specific promises of support from Dr. Gencho Pirgov of the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, and Dr. Johan van Wright of the Univ‘ of Helsinki, Finland. Also. we have received the support of Dr. Jean Dausset, Nobel Prize winner from France (via Santiago Genoves). Many organizations have begun to publicize the Statement. Outstanding is the work of the Psychologists for Social Responsibility in the US, as described in the enclosed letter from their coordinator Anne Anderson. We are getting a great deal of support from the International Council of Psychologists thanks to their Secretary-General, Dr. Patricia Cautley. And, true to the promise of her earlier letter (distributed August 4{, Dr. Betty Reardon has distributed the Statement to a number of organizations, and thanks to her. it was printed in its entirety as the lead article of the most recent issue of the COPRED Chronicle which goes to peace researchers throughout the US. There is also the work of Dr. Aage Nielsen. whose letter is enclosed, through whom it will be disseminated via the Association for World Education. Finally, I should mention the progress on the two books supporting the Statement. The proceedings of the Seville Colloquio will be published soon by Martin Ramirez in Spain. Meanwhile, the second book, under the editorship of Robert Hinde and Jo Groebel is in preparation and will tentatively include six sections: introduction; biological mechanisms of individual aggression: development of individual aggression; communication and group processes; social and international factors in war; and a conclusion that attempts an integration Please continue to push the "snowball" that was begun in Seville, and send me the news of its gathering momentum so that I can include it in the next mailing. I believe that we should not rest until, in the words of Dr. Mayor, we have covered the world with peace. Sincerely yours, David Adams
