Georgia

The National Commission organized an exhibition of children's drawings at the National Gallery and a around table at the UNESCO Chair of the State Pedagogical University. Thanks to the support of the UNESCO Almaty Office, the Georgian Commission for UNESCO and the federation of journalists of Georgia organized on 14th September, a press conference in order to celebrate the official launch of the IYCP.

Germany

For 14 September, the National Commission for UNESCO prepared an information sheet for the German press. The first major meeting dedicated to the Year will be a seminar on a culture of peace to be held from 8 to 12 December in Austria and involving the Commission's partners in Austria and Switzerland.

Greece

The sailing ship of the "Peace Cruise", bearing the flag of the IYCP, arrived in the port of Thessaloniki on 13 September. The 26 "Peace sailors", coming from 13 countries (Albania, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Malta, Palestinian Authority, Spain and United Kingdom) were greeted by the Mayor of Thessaloniki. At an event on the 14th, they held an event to launch the year with an official declaration on the Manifesto 2000 addressed to the UN Secretary-General, the UNESCO Director-General, the President of the Council of Europe, the President of the European Commission and the Secretary-General of the Arab League. The Peace Cruise continues to gather signatures on the Manifesto 2000 throughout its journey through the Mediterranean Sea.

In Thessaloniki youth associations and the population of the city were invited to participate in the launching of the International Year and the event was broadcast by ERT, Greek Television, in its evening journal.

Italy

A major television production for the IYCP should be broadcast by RAI UNO with Nobel Peace Laureates and performing artists. The programme will include excerpts from celebrations in other countries throughout the world and will be re-broadcast by a number of other countries.

Malte

Le Premier Ministre a signé le Manifeste 2000 et, dans un courrier adressé à M. Mayor, a souligné que son pays partage les ideaux de la culture de la paix. Il a egalement chargé le Ministre de l'Education de participer à l'organisation des activités pour le lancement de l'AICP.

Moldova

A press conference was organized by the National Commission for the launching of the AICP and on this occasion the book Principles on tolerance II was launched.

On September 17 a permanent weekly radio programme was set up under the generic "from the Year of Peace to the Millennium of Peace", where the message from the Director General was broadcast. All the programmes are in Roumanian, Russian and English.

On October 7 the International Symposium "Teachers for Peace" was attended by teachers from Ukraine, Russia and from almost all the schools of the country. Representatives of the National Commission banded in to each participant the unique book "Introduction in the Culture of Peace "' compiled from various UNESCO sources, the message of Federico Mayor was also translated and published in Moldova and Roumanian.

On November 4, UNESCO International Day, a republican exhibition of posters "Mens sana in Natura sana : Environmental culture means a Culture of Peace " will be opened, involving in it the ASP network, SEMEP and other schools and colleges from Moldova.
